PhotonFAB builds a roadmap for access to silicon photonics technologies, that sketches silicon photonics technology user needs, technology and service provider capabilities, and directions for further implementation of technology access in a landscape consisting of fabless users and providers.

Concept

The roadmap takes an approach from three different sides:

• Technology: identification of the technology needs as well as foundry technologies available, concluding on directions for future access and technology development
• Services: identification of needs for services on prototype IC fabrication, manufacturing, training, design etc, identification of the available services and concluding on directions for future service development
• Business model: try to match the technology and service needs and sketch possible business models.

Roadmap schedule

A roadmap will be released by PhotonFAB on a yearly basis. The first roadmap version is scheduled for October 2009. The steps taken to arrive at the roadmap include consulting the stakeholders in silicon photonics:

• The Expert Group is consulted on technology and service needs and capabilities. If you want to contribute to the roadmap, become part of the Expert Group.
• The technology and service draft roadmap is reviewed by the Expert Group
• The ePIXfab Advisory Board is consulted on long-term strategy and business model issues
